    Houses of Charleston

    Oil on Canvas 18" x 24"
    $650

    Artist's Comments

charleston_houseWho can resist the charm of historical Charleston, one of the oldest and most historical cities in the United States? The problem is where to start and how much detail to include. An artist could spend an entire career documenting the wonderful architecture of the period.

    Orange Tiger Lillies

    Oil Pastel 18" x 24"
    $500

    Artist's Comments

Varieties of Tiger lilies are staggering. My garden is small and I wouldn't know where to begin choosing varieties. See if you have the same problem by visiting the USDA photo gallery.

  • Then Comes Mama

    Then Comes Mama

    Oil on Canvas 30 " x 36 "
    $950

    Artist's Comments

This is the second in a series of three paintings, First Comes Love, Then Comes Mama and Then Comes Marriage. Like many artists, I paint what I see. Occasionaly my paintings express a social commentary.

  • Anemones

    Anemones

    Oil on Canvas 12 " x 16 "
    $400

    Artist's Comments

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there are 26 species and 52 overall taxa of anemones. I don't know exactly which one is represented here but I believe it is Anemone coronaria. Most of the others are some shade of white. With such a wide variety to choose from, no artist should ever suffer from "artist's block."

  • New Orleans Cafè

    New Orleans Cafè

    Oil on Canvas 18 " x 24 "
    $650

    Artist's Comments

Known for its night life and good times, New Orleans offers many opportunities for painters. You might think I, myself, was a little tipsy when I painted this cafè. I wasn't but I think it captures the essence of what revelers might see.

    Snowy Day

    Oil on Canvas 16 " x 20 "
    $500

    Artist's Comments

Snow! Just spread white paint over a canvas and there you have it. Snow is one of my favorite subjects and Winters in Western Pennsylvania and the Southern Great Lakes provide many opportunities for seeing it in all of its glory. The contrast between snow and the dormant vegetation substrate is an artist's dream. Sunlit sparkles of color and subtle shadows provide delicate and complex subjects for paintings. The National Weather Service provides animations of snowfall data for any region of the country. Here is a snow depth animation for near where I live.

  • About the Artist

    Ellie Steines

    Biography

Ellie obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. She studied under internationally known artists Sr. M. Angelica, Dr. Charles Movalli and Lois Griffel.

She has been teaching art in public schools, in her private studio and in local galleries for 35 years. She is drawn mostly to the glory of flowers, the uniqueness of trees and the tremendous beauty of snow. In Western Pennsylvania, where she lives, she is blessed to be surrounded by four seasons. Much of her art is based on places to which she travels with her husband.

Many of her works have found a home in hospitals (in cancer and birthing units) and in large corporations of Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Her paintings are in many private collections throughout the United States.

About 10 years ago, she visited the Butler Art Museum in Youngstown, Ohio to see the Wolf Kahn Paintings. As a result of that experience she decided to simplify her work and was emboldened to use color more vividly. For about ten years she worked in acrylic paints but striving for her own expression, she switched to oil sticks and pastel. In 2004, she began seeing the landscape and objects in a whimsical perspective and translated that into her paintings with bold markings.

Objective: Her latest works are a study of sharp, varying lines versus the softness of flowers, skies, and landscapes. She draws the viewer into her paintings with ”impressionistic” perspective and intense color in the hope of bringing a sense of wellness and delight to all who view them.
